Advising and guidance

The term guidance refers to all activities aimed at enabling the future student or sophomore to plan and manage their learning in a manner consistent with personal life goals and making full use of individual skills and interests in order to achieve personal fulfilment.

Depending on the moment in the university course when these activities are implemented, a distinction is made between:

  • guidance: carried out before the choice of the course of study, it is aimed at future students and offers support in identifying the course to be undertaken on the basis of individual interests, expectations and aptitudes. In this phase, the various possible scenarios are presented to the future student and the alternatives of the university pathway are illustrated;
  • orientation in progress: carried out during the university career, this is aimed at enrolled students and is designed to guide them within the courses of study already undertaken, enabling them to establish a better interaction with the structures and the university context;
  • career guidance: carried out close to or after graduation, it is aimed at graduates or undergraduates and aims to facilitate their introduction into the working environment.

Guidance

Both at the beginning of teaching activities and in the second part of the second semester, the Course President, the Course Quality Assurance Manager, the student representatives on the Instructors-Students Joint Committee, the Erasmus and internships contact persons meet with enrolled students to provide them with essential information on:

  • teaching organisation of the degree course in Classical and Modern Literature;
  • services offered;
  • how to deal with and resolve any problems.

The Infopoint, which traditionally operates during the first part of the first semester (Monday to Friday) at the Cloister of the D'Azeglio Complex, where Course Tutor-students and Department Tutor-instructors are at the disposal of students, and especially newly enrolled students, has been replaced, due to health emergency, by individual or group interviews on the Microsoft TEAMS platform and organised by Tutor-instructors.

The guidance service, as far as more targeted contacts with individual students are concerned, is carried out

The reporting outcome on the opinion of students (attending and non-attending) is above the University average and is largely positive with regard to both the organisational aspect (a.a. 2019-2020: 97.27%, Athenaeum 91%), as well as the teaching action (97.28%, Athenaeum 90%), data also indicative of the effectiveness of the orientation action.

Guidance and tutoring in itinere

The main guidance and tutoring service for the Master's Degree Course in Classical and Modern Literature is provided by the Course President (Prof. Gualtiero Rota), the tutor-instructors of the Degree Course (professors Gualtiero Rota, Elena Bonora, Mariella Bonvicini, Massimo Magnani, Alessia Morigi, Paolo Rinoldi, Paolo Russo) and tutor-students.

When assisting the students with the compilation of the programme of study, the Course President is helped by a Committee composed by the professors

The degree course makes use of the CAI (Centre for Reception and Inclusion) in the areas of reception, care, social integration and rights of people with disabilities, Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD), Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Starting from a.a. 2015-2016 are planned, with reference to the corrective actions of the Annual Review Reports, periodic interviews with out-of-course or critical students, in relation to the regularity and quality of their academic career. This action was fine-tuned in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 thanks to the tutor-students in cooperation with the Course President and the Course Manager.
