Doctoral School in Science and Technology

Coordinator

Prof. Fabrizio Balsamo

Associate Professor of Structural Geology and Tectonics at the Department of Chemical, Life and Environmental Sustainability Sciences of the University of Parma.
He participates in various national and international research projects with public and private funding.
He deals with the analysis of the associated brittle deformation and plicative structures and fault zones for the determination of the interactions between tectonic processes and the circulation of fluids in the subsurface.
In particular, the lines of research concern the definition of the structural architecture of fault systems, the petrophysical and frictional properties of fault rocks, the diagenesis associated with fault zones (mineralizations, karst, etc.).
He also deals with tectonic reconstructions of north-eastern Brazil, northern Victoria Land in Antarctica, the Northern Aegean in Greece, and the Central Apennines in Italy.
Between 2002 and 2019 he participated in 5 polar campaigns in Antarctica (PNRA Projects).
Author and co-author of over 100 scientific contributions in international peer-review journals, and about 200 conference presentations.
Scientific director of the Laboratory of Petrophysics and Microstructures and Digital photogrammetry and 3D survey laboratory of the University of Parma.
