Doctoral School in Science and Technology

International collaborations

  • The University of Parma promotes and encourages the development of international cooperation in the field of Research Doctorates. To this end, it encourages participation in European programs and stipulates agreements with foreign universities and/or institutions that define the methods of cooperation and mobility and that provide for the awarding of double/multiple/joint degrees.
  • The University may also sign bilateral co-supervision agreements with universities in foreign countries, both as an administrative office and as a host office. Co-supervision consists of the joint supervision of a doctoral thesis by a professor of the University and a professor of a foreign university and provides, at the end of the doctoral program, the awarding of a double or joint degree that is valid in the countries where the two universities are based. Co-supervision may be activated, subject to approval by the Teaching Board, in favor of doctoral students enrolled, as a rule, in the first or second year of the course, in order to allow the research program to be carried out at both contracting offices. In the event that the University of Parma is the host location of the co-supervision, the doctoral student must spend a research period, even if not continuous, at the University of Parma, normally not less than one year.
