Integrated course unit module: Pathophysiology of pregnancy and puerperium

Learning objectives

This course is aimed at providing the student with the basic knowledge and comprehension of the covered topics and allowing a practical applications of these contents within the future professional work

The exam Ostetricia I has been passed

Course unit content

Maternal heart disease in pregnancy
Fetal response to intrapartum hypoxic stress
Pathophylsiological interpretation if intrapartum CTG
Fetal ECG in labor (STAN)
Induction of labor: methods and clinical indications. Post-term pregnancy: how to monitor the fetal wellbeing. Abnormalities of amniotic fluid in labor: clinical significance and management. Risk assessment before labor.
The perineal tears: prevention, diagnosis and surgical treatment. Postpartum medical disorders: prevention and treatment of thromboembolism and sepsis

Teaching methods

The present course is based on frontal lessons in-presence
The teacher takes lessons in the classroom with the help of PC (Powerpoint slides); Each lesson is r loaded in the Elly portal of the course, together with the slides. The teacher is available for further explanations in office or by distance via Teams after e-mail appointment, or via chat on Elly platform.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student’s knowledge, topics’ comprehension and her/his skill to apply them on the occupational contexts will be evaluated by questions on the topics related to the course content. Failed answer to one or more questions or proved insufficiency of the basic knowledge on the subject will preclude the successful completion of the exam. In case of completion of the exam, an evaluation that contributes to the final grade of the course will be defined and it will be based on the achievement of the objectives.
