Description and educational objectives
The Doctoral Course in Translational Medical and Surgical Sciences is designed as a typical multidisciplinary PhD program, where the common denominator of the various expertise and research activities is the specific phase of transitioning from the "bench," or laboratory bench, to the "bedside," i.e., from the laboratory to clinical practice or, in any case, to the acquisition of results with an applied perspective. This close connection with clinics will enable students to address real-world issues, spanning from diagnosis to therapy and from prevention to rehabilitation, all ultimately related to human pathology and patient care. The rapid exchange between applied contexts (clinical and laboratory) in its bidirectional nature will bring the results of clinical and epidemiological observation back to the laboratory, while anchoring experimental research to topics that arise from insights and verifications directly conducted on humans. Therefore, the Doctoral Course in Translational Medical and Surgical Sciences has as its goal the training of highly qualified PhDs, providing them with the opportunities, skills, and technological resources to conduct high-level translational research at public or private entities, both national and international, including, but not limited to, Universities, Research Institutes, and PharmaMed Industries.
