Career prospects
The employment opportunities for Doctors of Research in Molecular Medicine can be envisaged within the public and private sector occupations dedicated to research and development activities with a high scientific and intellectual profile. The skills on the multiple topics of basic and clinical research offered in the PhD course, under the supervision of highly qualified teachers, are indispensable and useful for carrying out study and research activities at research laboratories of Italian and foreign universities, in private research centres, in the Hospital-University Companies, in the Pharmaceutical Industries. By way of example, it is mentioned that some of our students, who have obtained the title of Doctor in research in Molecular Medicine in previous cycles, have found employment at private Italian research institutes such as Chiesi Farmaceutici (Parma) and foreign researchers such as the Cancer Research UK (Francis Crick Institute, London) or have started their university careers as temporary researchers and associate professors (University of Parma). In fact, the PhD in Molecular Medicine is a prerequisite for the academic career, being relevant to obtain the positive evaluation in the procedure provided for the ASN. Every year, the PhD programme trains at least 4 research doctors on different scientific subjects, according to a rotation mechanism of tutors and research topics. This offers a broad overview of access to university career given the high number of scientific-disciplinary areas represented in the Collegio di Dottorato, within a considerable variety of biological and medical disciplines such as: Physiology (BIOS-06/A), Biochemistry (BIOS-07/A), Molecular Biology (BIOS-08/A), Clinical biochemistry and Clinical molecular biology (BIOS-09/A), Pharmacology (BIOS-11/A), Human anatomy (BIOS-12/A), Histology and embryology (BIOS-12/A), General pathology (MEDS-02/A), Clinical pathology (MEDS-02/B), Medical oncology (MEDS-09/A), Clinical microbiology and microbiology (MEDS-03/A), Pathological anatomy (MEDS-04/A), Cardiovascular diseases (MEDS-07/B), Dental stomatologic diseases (MEDS-16/A), Maxilfacial surgery (MEDS-15/B), Diseases of the visual system (MEDS-17/A), Physical and rehabilitative medicine (MEDS-19B), Anesthesiology (MEDS-23/A), Forensic medicine (MEDS-25/A), Methods and didactics of motor activities (MEDF-01/A), Methods and didactics of sports activities (MEDF-01/B), Clinical psychology (PSIC-04/B).
