Doctoral School in Science and Technology

Description and educational objectives

The PhD  programme in Biotechnology and Biosciences aims to train experts in the biotechnology field capable of conducting advanced research across various areas of basic and applied biology, with particular emphasis on biological disciplines and applied biotechnology. PhD candidates will develop a full-time research project, also offering critical and constructive contributions, thereby gaining scientific and managerial autonomy, supported by numerous international scientific collaborations in which they will participate.

The study curriculum is defined by the Board of Professors in the doctoral proposal for each cycle and consists of disciplinary and interdisciplinary training activities, as well as enhancement in language, computing, and statistical skills, with a focus on research management, knowledge of European and international research systems, research outcome valorisation, and intellectual property.

The teaching activities are delivered throughout the three years of the PhD programme. Courses are taught by established faculty members from affiliated universities, as well as other instructors and at research institutions with which there are scientific collaboration agreements. The total number of credits to be obtained during the three years is 180 ECTS. Of these, 120 ECTS correspond to research work for the thesis. During the three years, at least 20 ECTS must be earned through training activities.
