Learning objectives
The expectation is that, at the end of the module, students will be able to:
1. Understand the impact of intra-family violence on the growth of sons and daughters who witness it;
2. Recognize the complexity of gender violence, whose multiple roots are to be found in psychological and relational elements, family and cultural influences;
3. Develop an ability to read and analyze the main epidemiological data available in Italy on gender violence so as to give the phenomenon a dimension;
4. Recognize the contribution that a correct medical-legal evaluation can offer to women who have suffered violence.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required.
Course unit content
I lesson
A maieutic workshop will be proposed based on a narrative text regarding the perception of domestic violence by sons and daughters who witness it. A summary of a study on the perception of family violence by boys and girls interviewed in judicial contexts will also be proposed.
The essential contents will be systematized through teacher's slides.
II lesson
The most recent national epidemiological data on gender violence as a whole will be analysed, with an in-depth look at gender violence in adolescence or among young people, and on the cultural and family factors that influence it.
An in-depth analysis will be offered on the contribution that a correct medico-legal evaluation can offer to the recognition of violence, and on the obstacles that are most frequently faced in this field.
