Learning objectives

The course aims to describe the fundamental characteristics of the functioning of an organization and its measurement and management systems.
I) Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of organizational processes, organizational integration, types of organizational structure, organizational planning and measurement and management systems in an educational context.
II) Competences: at the end of the course the student will be able to analyze the organizational structure, to use coordination and performance assessment tools, to read and comment the main accounting information and a balance sheet.
III) Making judgements: the student will be able to analyze the main characteristics of an organization, to define which coordination tools are proper and to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of an educational organization.
IV) Communication skills: at the end of the course the student will be able to use specific terminology in the field of economical evaluation and business management.
V) Learning skills: through case studies and exercises, the student will be able to value in depth the process of analysis, measurement and management of an educational organization.

Course unit content

The course deals with the main concepts of the business economy dropped into educational institutions. The first part of the course is dedicated to general principles, such as the definition of a company, what is meant by organization, the concept of effectiveness, efficiency and economy. The general principles are then declined in educational contexts, analyzing the particularities of the sector and some practical cases.

Teaching methods

Acquisition of knowledge: lectures.
Acquisition of the ability to apply knowledge: exercises.
Acquisition of judgment: during the course students will be encouraged to identify strengths and weaknesses of organizational models in an educational context .
Acquisition of technical language: during the course will be explained the meaning of the terms used by companies about organization and budget.The teaching material for classroom activities will be made available by the teacher on the ELLY platform

Assessment methods and criteria

Assesment will be through a written examination with open-ended questions, but with a defined space for answering. The duration will be 1 hour. The proposed questions will contain problems to which the student will have to find a solution by demonstrating not only knowledge of the subject through careful study of it, but also the ability to link general concepts and specific topics together, as well as demonstrate the level of autonomy of judgment. The assignment will be considered passed if the student sufficiently answers all the questions asked. The overall grade will be derived from the average of the marks of the individual questions.The results of the exam are posted on the esse3 portal and the timing will depend on the number of participants. It will range from a minimum of one week up to 4 weeks for appeals with more than 200 registrants. Students will be able to view assignments by appointment with the lecturer.
