Course unit content

The history of surgery has changed enormously in recent decades thanks also to the discoveries of various radiological techniques. From the introduction of ultrasound at the end of the 1970s (in Italy) to the multidetector CT scan to nuclear medicine up to radiotherapy, the knowledge of diseases of surgical interest and the management of surgical patients, in election as in urgent or emergency settings, can not ignore a correct indication to a radiological examination rather than to another, always with the help of the knowledge of medical science and of the clinic. All these efforts aim to the care and cure of the patients, without neglecting, however, attention to the economic expenditure for the National Health System.
