Prof. Marco Locatelli

Marco Locatelli has been full professor in Operations Research at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Parma since 2010. 
His scientific activity is mainly focused on solving global optimization problems, in which the global minimum of a function is searched for in the presence of local minima. In this context he developed theoretical studies on the complexity of these problems and heuristic and exact algorithms for their solution. Applications of the investigated methodologies include molecular conformation, packing, planning of space missions, motion planning problems. He also carried out research in the field of heuristic approaches for combinatorial optimization problems, such as the max-clique problem.

He is currently in the Editorial Board of Computational Optimization and Applications, Journal of Global Optimization, SN Operations Research Forum, Operations Research Letters, Optimization Methods and Software.
He published more than 100 papers in international journals, and he co-authored with Fabio Schoen the book Global Optimization: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications.
