Training Activities
The training project for the PhD student is structured into:
- Research activities;
- Study activities;
- Internship periods at other universities, institutes, entities, or research laboratories at public or private institutions, in Italy and/or abroad;
- Teaching support activities in line with the university regulations;
- Scientific dissemination and orientation support activities.
Research activities and the preparation of the PhD thesis must lead to original contributions. It is required that the results achieved are published in internationally recognized prestigious scientific journals and that, as a rule, at least one article is accepted by the journal to which it was submitted at the time of admission to the final exam.
The study activities are defined by the Academic Board in the PhD proposal for each cycle and are structured into:
a) Specific lectures for the PhD;
b) Courses borrowed from other programs;
c) Attendance at seminars;
d) Participation in national and international workshops and specialized schools;
e) Participation in complementary transversal training activities, as defined by Article 4, paragraph f of Ministerial Decree No. 45 of 8/2/2013 (activities, also shared among multiple PhDs, of disciplinary and interdisciplinary training and linguistic and IT improvement, as well as in the field of research management and knowledge of European and international research systems, the valorization of research results, and intellectual property).
To organize the training activities, the Academic Board prepares a list of courses offered to PhD students. PhD students are required to provide the Academic Board with documentation certifying successful attendance.
Internship periods at other universities, institutes, or research laboratories at public or private institutions, in Italy and/or abroad for at least three months are strongly recommended.
NOTE: For stays abroad, it is necessary to submit the mobility request form, even in case of waiver of the contribution. Depending on the duration of the stay, fill out one of the following two forms:
- Form for stays abroad longer than 6 months
- Form for stays abroad shorter than 6 months
Teaching support activities, which must be carried out mandatorily, must comply with the university regulations and be approved by the Academic Board. Teaching activities may include:
a) Assignment of supplementary or subsidiary teaching tasks (support for exercises and laboratory activities carried out within the courses activated in the bachelor's and master's degree programs at the University of Parma);
b) Collaboration with students in research related to final exams and theses.
Scientific dissemination and orientation support activities are considered among the duties of PhD students and take place within the initiatives to promote degree programs at schools and in dissemination activities organized by the Department.
