Guidelines for Quality Assurance in PhD Courses

The AVA (Self-assessment - Evaluation - Accreditation) system aims to improve the quality of the activities carried out in the Universities, through the application of a quality assurance (AQ) model based on an internal procedure for planning, management, self-assessment and improvement.
AVA3 presents the AQ process for the PhD.
These Guidelines aim to assist the Coordinators and the Teaching Board in the planning, initial and periodic accreditation, management of the PhD Courses, with reference to the requirements described by AVA3.

Il Sistema di AQ secondo ANVUR - Linee Guida AVA3

1. What does the AVA3 system provide? The ANVUR AVA3 system is divided into three fundamental processes:

Self-assessment: Each doctorate carries out an internal assessment to monitor the effectiveness of the training path and the quality of the research carried out. This process aims to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Periodic evaluation: ANVUR periodically evaluates the Doctorate Courses to ensure that they comply with the quality requirements and that the training offer is consistent with the needs of the national and international context.
Accreditation: The accreditation process guarantees that the Research Doctorates comply with the standards defined by ANVUR and the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), ensuring the quality of the training offer.

2. Principles of the QA system for Research Doctorates:

Centrality of the Student and the Researcher: The system pays particular attention to the support and development of the skills of doctoral students, enhancing their research path.
Transparency and Accountability: Each phase of the QA process is documented and transparent, to promote clear communication towards the academic community and stakeholders. Continuous Improvement: Through the collection of feedback and continuous monitoring, the QA system aims to constantly improve the educational experience and the quality of research.
