Learning objectives
The course aims to provide knowledge related to neuropsychological assessment tools used in clinical practice for the evaluation of healthy and pathological aging. Basic skills will also be acquired for the definition and planning of targeted cognitive rehabilitation interventions. Students will acquire the basic skills for using these tools, scoring them and interpreting the results. The diagnostic criteria of the different types of dementia will also be explored in depth, considering the neuropsychological, biological and neuroimaging aspects. At the end of the course, students will be able to distinguish the different neurodegenerative pathologies based on the highlighted neuropsychological profiles.

Basic knowledge of neuropsychology and neuroanatomy.

The neuropsychology of aging. Concept of cognitive reserve and brain reserve. Longevity and the promotion of active aging: cognitive aspects and physical activity. Methodological and statistical aspects of neuropsychological tests. “Mild Cognitive Impairment” (MCI). Alzheimer's dementia and atypical forms. Fronto-temporal dementia. Primary Progressive Aphasia. Vascular dementias. Lewy body dementia. Parkinson's disease and atypical parkinsonisms. Post traumatic dementia. Mechanisms of neuroplasticity and cognitive rehabilitation. Non-pharmacological interventions in patients with dementia. Presentation of clinical/neuropsychological cases.

Teaching methods
