Integrated course unit module: CARE, SOCIETY AND POLITICS

Learning objectives

At the end of the module, students:
- should have acquired and understood basic notions on the sociology of care;
- should analyse with a critical approach and with appropriate academic language the main issues related to the care;
- should be able to apply their acquired notions in the reading and interpretation of social phenomena associated with care

Course unit content

This module aims to examine the topic of care by adopting a sociological perspective. In the course of the lectures, the main developments in sociological thought on care will be presented, with particular emphasis on those from the sociology of health and medicine.

Bibliography

Readings provided by the lecturer and uploaded on the Elly platform. Also the slides used during the lectures will be part of the study materials.

Teaching methods

Teaching activities will take place in presence through lectures, in any case by promoting the exchanges and the discussions with the students. During the lectures, slides will be used. All materials will be made available on the Elly platform, also used for communications and notices.
Students are warned that it is forbidden to disseminate course materials (slides) and notes associated with the lecturer's name outside Unipr.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam will be written and will focus on the exam materials. In particular, it will composed by 1 open-ended questions with no space limits (time available: 20 minutes). The question will aim to assess not only the notions acquired by students, but also their critical thinking skills and property of academic language. The exam will be marked from 0 to 30 and will form part of the final grade of the integrated exam together with the marks obtained by the student in the other modules.

Other information

The lecturer is always available for clarifications on both lesson on both the content and organisation of the classes (timetable, materials to be studied, examination procedures, etc.).
The office hours for A.Y. 2024-2025 are normally on Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. and can be in person or via the Teams platform. In any case, all students are invited to send an email to the lecturer in advance to make an appointment (in person or online). It is also possible to make an appointment on other days and/or times if students have problems on the day and/or time of the weekly office hours.
