Legal auditor
Function in a work context:
The statutory auditor is a professional who is responsible for auditing the accounting records of a company. More specifically, the task of the statutory auditor is to verify that the annual financial statements and the consolidated financial statements (if any) of companies subject to mandatory or voluntary audits have been prepared in accordance with proper accounting principles. The opinion expressed by the statutory auditor following the audit is set out in a report. Competences associated with the function:
The statutory auditor is a highly qualified professional for the type of work s/he is called upon to do. For this reason, the statutory auditor must complete a three-year apprenticeship with an approved statutory auditor and take a State Examination, the passing of which guarantees registration in the Register of Auditors held at the MEF (Ministry of Economy and Finance). The State Examination is aimed at ascertaining in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge, mainly of economic-business and legal subjects. Professional opportunities:
The professional outlets are related to the possibility of carrying out this activity autonomously and individually, as a freelancer. Alternatively, the most direct professional outlet is audit companies, i.e. companies that professionally carry out statutory audits for companies.
Chartered accountant.
Function in a business context:
A chartered accountant is a professional who provides advice on accounting, tax and corporate matters. More specifically, the task of the chartered accountant is to provide assistance to individuals, sole proprietors, partnerships and corporations in the management of their accounts, in the drafting of the annual and consolidated financial statements (where applicable), in the correct execution of tax obligations required by law, in the implementation of extraordinary management operations, in the setting up of corporate governance and, more generally, in the management of administrative obligations affecting business activities, in support of the entrepreneur or the administrative office. The chartered accountant also offers advice on management control and financial planning, where necessary and required. Competences associated with the function:
The chartered accountant is a highly qualified professional. For this reason, a chartered accountant, in order to qualify, must complete an 18-month apprenticeship and then take a State Examination, the passing of which guarantees registration in the Register of Chartered Accountants. With regard to the compulsory training period, please note that 6 of the 18 compulsory months can be completed in conjunction with attendance at the ""Business Administration and Management"" course of study.
The State Examination is aimed at ascertaining a thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of business, tax and legal subjects. At present, the State Examination consists of three written tests and an oral test; graduates in ""Business Administration and Management"" are exempt, by virtue of the skills acquired in the course of study, from taking the first of the three written tests. The professional outlets can be either self-employment as a chartered accountant or employment in associated firms, consulting firms, administrative offices of industrial and commercial enterprises or tax offices of large companies or groups of companies.
Internal Auditor.
Function in a working context:
The internal auditor is required to have expertise in the internal control systems used by companies. In particular, internal auditing is the corporate function that monitors and verifies the formal and substantive correctness of internal procedures, checking that all corporate operators act in accordance with the procedures. Competences associated with the function:
The skills provided to perform as an internal auditor are managerial analysis skills, able to interpret organisational and management processes.
In particular, the internal auditor must acquire skills that enable him/her to:
- interpret the results of company management; - ascertain the consistency between available resources and activities carried out; - verify the presence of and compliance with rules protecting minorities and other company stakeholders; - verify the completeness, reliability and timeliness of information relating to management and relevant decisions. Professional opportunities:
The internal auditor is a figure that is increasingly in demand in private, public and third sector companies, given the high level of technical expertise and the evolution of the company in increasingly complex environments.
Administrative Manager.
Function in a working environment:
Profiles in this professional field are responsible for ensuring the proper performance of administrative and accounting functions. They assist companies in carrying out management, administration, planning and control functions, as well as preparing and submitting official reporting documents on the company's economic performance. The main activities may therefore relate to:
- the preparation of administrative, accounting and tax procedures for the company; - the definition of administrative-accounting guidelines for general and analytical accounting staff; - the measurement and assessment of management efficiency and effectiveness and the achievement of objectives; - the coordination in the management of customers and suppliers as well as relations with banks; - the retrieval and optimal use of financial resources through the best composition of financing sources; - the preparation of annual and consolidated financial statements and the compilation of interim financial statements, if any. Competences associated with the function:
The professional figures trained by the course of study in this professional field have an economic-business and legal background in order to deal with the fields of business economics with an interdisciplinary and integrated vision:
- the general and analytical accounts manager; - the management control manager; - the budget manager; - the payroll manager; - the financial analyst. Professional opportunities:
The administrative manager can find employment in medium-sized and large companies, both public and private.
Controller.
Function in a working environment:
The controller is responsible for management control and performs functions related to the planning and control of the company's activities with specific reference to the short term. In particular, the objective of the controller's activity is to provide interpretations and evaluations of the company's activities through periodic reports that examine and inform on the health of the company from an economic, financial and management point of view. In this sense, the controller performs support functions for senior management. Competences associated with the function:
The skills associated with the controller job are as follows:
- drafting of the company budget with reference to specific functions (commercial, financial, production, personnel and so on); - measurement of results through the use of general accounting and analytical accounting tools; - comparison between planned and actual data with a view to analysing any deviations; - drafting of the management report, which is intended to support decision-making processes. Professional opportunities:
The controller can find employment in all business contexts, whether medium or large, public or private.
Communication skills.
Graduates in 'Business Administration and Management':
- have the ability to analyse problems (problem solving skills); - have interpersonal skills and are able to present their conclusions regarding studies and analyses in writing and orally in an effective manner and in language appropriate to the various interlocutors, explaining their reasoning clearly.
The acquisition of communication skills is achieved through active participation in classroom exercises and case analysis activities as well as the presentation of the results of individual or group work on topics or cases proposed by the teacher. The acquisition of the communication skills listed above is achieved in particular through the internship or work placement.
The acquisition of communication skills is also checked during the final examination (dissertation).
The ability to express oneself in English will be ascertained by means of a language proficiency test, in particular on the knowledge and use of specialist business language.
