Course presentation
The Degree Course in Materials Science is an open-access course belonging to the Class of Degrees in Materials Science L-SC.MAT; it lasts three years, in which 180 university training credits (CFU) are obtained. At the end of the studies, a degree in "Materials Science" is obtained.
The Degree Course aims to provide a solid cultural and methodological preparation in the chemical and physical disciplines, which will allow you to understand the relationships between the structure and properties of a material and to use experimental knowledge and skills to analyze the characteristics and functionality of various classes of materials.
The mandatory exams correspond to 150 CFUs. In the first year, six courses in basic Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are planned, and courses in English and Computer Science. In the second year, seven courses delve into the structure and physical and chemical properties of materials. The third year has four courses in which the scientific and industrial applications of innovative materials and the techniques of scientific investigation of materials are explored in depth. During the third year, 18 CFUs are dedicated to elective courses, which can be used to study specific topics of interest to the student.
Finally, 12 CFUs are reserved for the internship and final exam. The internship can be carried out at research laboratories of the University of Parma, the National Research Council (CNR) or at local companies, and for the final exam.
The Degree in Materials Science opens access to first-level Masters and Master's Degree courses in the classes LM-SC.MAT (Master's Degrees in Materials Science), LM-17 (Master's Degrees in Physics), LM-54 (Master's Degrees in Chemical Sciences), LM-71 (Master's Degrees in Science and Technology of Industrial Chemistry), as well as other classes, activated at the University of Parma or at other universities, according to the methods established in the respective regulations.
