Guidance
The professors/instructors delegated for the orientation of the Biotechnology degree course coordinated by the University Guidance and Job Placement Unit and in coordination with the other delegates of the degree courses linked to the Department, they participate in orientation meetings held at upper secondary schools where information is provided to future students on the structure, content and methods of access to the degree course, they organise educational visits to the Departments, they collaborate in the organisation of the 'Studiare a Parma' (Study in Parma) open days, held annually at the University in spring, and the 'From Maturity to University' info days, held annually at the University in summer, to coincide with the opening of enrolment.
The degree course in Biotechnology adheres to the Piano Lauree Scientifiche (PLS), created in 2004 with the aim of combating the growing disaffection of young people towards scientific disciplines. This initiative takes the form of traineeships of one or more days for high-school students activated at the SCVSA Department; the relevant information is collected in a digital brochure published annually on the website; the same brochure is sent by email, through direct contact with the headmasters and school guidance teachers, to all the schools in the catchment area (Parma and neighbouring provinces as well as other provinces in which guidance meetings are organised in schools or guidance fairs are held).
In addition to traineeships, more specific initiatives are organised directly by professors/instructors (not necessarily delegated for orientation). These actions are thematic in nature and are aimed at high school students in order to provide them with further information on study paths leading to more or less 'canonical' professional profiles.
The delegated professors/instructors for orientation also carry out direct contact activities with users when requested directly by e-mail or telephone, possibly setting up appointments for visits or interviews.
The guidance of the Biotechnology degree course is also aimed at the eventual choice of a Second-cycle degree, in order to orientate it, favouring vocation and talent, through more intensive contacts with students enrolled in First-cycledegrees.
