Learning objectives
For PSYCHOLOGY
1. Knowledge and understanding
Functioning of cognitive (perception, attention, learning, memory, thought) and motivational (emotion, frustration and stress) processes as base of the dentistry patients behavior. Sleep. Verbal and non-verbal communication. Emotions. Pain representation and modulation. Stress and burnout in health settings.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. Students will be able to apply the knowledge, understanding and skills acquired in dealing with psychological issues within the practice of health practioners. Students will be able to interact with patients, their families, and health care personnel in a courteous, professional, and respectful manner.
3. Independence of judgment. Students will develop critical thinking skills and independent judgment. They will be able to pick up the signals and attitudes, assessing the compliance of patients and knowing how to orient the attitudes and motivations.
4. Communication skills. Students will be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with patients, their families, and members of the health care team. They will be able to obtain a medical history in a culturally competent manner, interpret non-verbal aspects of communication, establishing therapeutic relationships involving cognitive and emotional processes associated with reactions to stress and pain in patients.
5. Learning ability. Students will be able to contribute to collaborative learning environments, accepting constructive feedback from others and taking personal responsibility for making appropriate positive changes. Students will be able to organize the work of a professional team, enhancing the motivation and skills of employees and to update from reliable sources.
Educational targets for
- RISK PREVENTION TECHNIQUES IN LABORATORIES
The course in risk mitigation techniques in laboratories, is included in the degree courses of Biomedical Laboratory Techniques, as a formation activity in biological risk mitigation assessment. The student will learn how to prevent and deal with biological risks in biomedical laboratories. The student will acquire the capability for the correct interpretation and formulation about risk assessment and how safely utilize laboratory instruments, the manipulation of laboratory organisms and how to correctly operate with personal and collective protective equipment.
- RISK ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT IN THE BIOMEDIC LABORATORY
At the end of the training, students should have acquired knowledge and skills related to biomedical lab risks (with special attention to bio- and chemical hazard)
Particularly, students should be able to:
1. Learn about prevention and protection systems in biomedical lab
2. Know chemicals hazard classification and labelling in accordance with EU legislation REACH and CLP
3. How to use material safety data sheet (MSDS) and label
4. How to use Individual Protection Devices (DPI) and fume cupboard for chemicals
5. Know the medical surveillance related to biomedical lab risk.

Contents for
- RISK PREVENTION TECHNIQUES IN LABORATORIES
The course in risk mitigation techniques in biomedical laboratory will take place at the Department of Medicine and Surgery. The students will take knowledge with conventional laboratory instruments, and the related health-risk assessments.
The first part of the course is related to understand the risk mitigation during biological manipulation of virus, bacteria, cells and biological fluids.
The second part of the course is related to understand the risk mitigation using the laboratory instruments, related personal protective equipment and how to deal with alarms and malfunction in the laboratory and the Biosecurity levels.
- RISK ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT IN THE BIOMEDIC LABORATORY
Risk assessment and risk related to biomedical lab
Chemicals used in biomedical lab
EU chemicals legislation REACH and CLP: label and material safety data sheet
Prevention and protection systems
Medical surveillance

Teaching methods
For PSYCHOLOGY
Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly) and will include slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recording of the lectures.
Lectures will be supported from practice for active involvement of students. Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which together with video-tutorial will be will be uploaded on Elly platform (https://elly.medicina.unipr.it).

Assessment methods and criteria
For PSYCHOLOGY module
The oral evaluation will contribute to ascertain the attainment of all the objectives of the course.
Questions tend to check whether the student has attained a foundation of knowledge and a understanding of what was discussed. The evaluation will be derived from the accuracy levels achieved for each training goal. The final grade corresponds to the average of the modules' marks (rating scale of 0-30).
RISK PREVENTION TECHNIQUES IN LABORATORIES
Final oral examination. The student will be allow to show all modality about risk mitigation ranging from laboratory organism manipulation to biomedical instruments. In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
remote oral questions, through the Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/).
Students with SLD / BSE must first contact Le Eli-che: support for students with disabilities, D.S.A., B.E.S. (https://sea.unipr.it/it/servizi/le-eli-che-supporto-studenti-con-disabilita-dsa-bes)
