Learning objectives

1st LEARNING ENPOINT: the student is expected to know how the various types of scientific articles are structured.

2nd LEARNING ENPOINT; the student is expected to be able to describe the different types of scientific article, the forming sections according to the article type

3rd LEARNING ENPOINT: the student is expected to be able to develop a scientifically - rigorous thinking and to possess autonomous judgement on the structure and the presentation of a scientific paper

4th LEARNING ENPOINT: the student is expected to master the scientific editorial language

Course unit content

Approach to the study of a scientific article through the description of the various types of manuscripts, of the different sections that characterize them, the purposes of the scientific publication, the types of scientific journals

Types of Scientific journals

Types of scientific papers (original article, brief report, review, editorial, etc) and their purposes

Contents of each type (abstract, introduction, materials and methods, discussion, possible groupings of the sections according to the article type, sections of a review, etc.)

How to read an article according to the objectives of my research

Bibliography

No textbooks will be used; the lessons will be based on the reading and discussion of scientific publications available on Pubmed / Scopus / Clarivate

Teaching methods

All the lectures and the activities will be on Elly platform.

Assessment methods and criteria

The achievement of the objectives will be ascertained through two main tasks: multi choice quiz and the writing of a paper abstract. Since this is an ADE, there is no final exam, but only the certification of attendance.
