Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to: 1) to provide students with the theoretical basis in parasitology and parasitic diseases of the horse; 2) start the student at laboratory diagnostics in Veterinary Parasitology; to make the student appropriate and correct terminology. Results of expected learning: 1) the acquisition of theoretical knowledge on the biology of parasites under hygienic-social, zoo-economic and clinical profiling; 2) the acquisition of a good knowledge of the parasitological epidemiology underlying the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in breeding / farming practice and be able to act appropriately in different contexts; 3) achieving good ability to work properly for the purpose of sampling biological samples and their subsequent laboratory analysis for proper parental diagnosis.

Course unit content

The course will consider the most important equine parasites. In particular will be processed, the cycle, pathogenesis, anatomy, epidemiology and diagnosis of: protozoa, flukes, tapeworms, roundworms and arthropods.

Assessment methods and criteria

The evaluation of the knowledge acquired by the student in the course of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases is carried out by an oral test. The student will then have to submit an oral exam consisting of three questions pertaining to the program in the classroom and an application concerning the parasitic diagnosis carried out in the inaugural classroom, following online registration at the official examination schedule of the Department of Veterinary and Veterinary Science and in the lab.
The student must demonstrate that he has understood the fundamental concepts of each topic of the course.
To the students with diagnosis of specific learning disability (DSA) certified under law n. 170/2010, proper specific support will be provided.
