Learning objectives
Knowledge:
At the end of the course, the student will be familiar with the basic concepts of automatic drawing that are indispensable for the correct
management of graphic design.
Skills:
At the end of the course the student will be able to practically apply the acquired knowledge and to realise independently
autonomously in the specific field of architectural design.
Autonomy of judgement:
At the end of the course the student will be able to autonomously identify, as the themes and problems vary, the
most appropriate representation techniques to be used for the communication of their work.

At the end of the exam, the student must necessarily have acquired the ability to communicate their ideas and projects through the use of software.

Prerequisites
It is recommended, as a prerequisite, to have already taken the Drawing examination.
Course unit content
The following topics will be covered in detail during the course:
- Introduction to vector graphics;
- AutoCAD graphic interface and its customisation;
- Generalities: use of commands, saving the file, display tools, selection tools;
- Working method: use of layers, object properties;
- Precision drawing: units of measure, reference system, object snap, ortho mode and polar pointing, tools
measurement tools;
- Two-dimensional drawing: main drawing commands, main editing commands;
- Text management;
- Quotation of drawings;
- Management of raster images;
- Other essential commands for completing drawings;
- Layout and print management.

Teaching methods
The course will take place in the Computer Science Laboratories of the Engineering teaching centre and will consist of theoretical and practical lessons to provide the basic notions on the use of computer tools for the graphic restitution of works. Given its widespread use, the choice of software with which to carry out the exercises has fallen on Autodesk's AutoCAD software for Windows. During the lessons, the basic notions and essential commands will be explained in order to be able to
realisation of any graphic design project.
In order to be eligible for the examination, each student must have handed in the boards assigned during the course, either
in paper or digital format, respecting the delivery times indicated by the lecturer.
As final work, at the end of the Automatic Drawing Workshop, students will be asked to produce traditional
graphic works relating to the building already the subject of the end-of-year exercise carried out as part of the Drawing course.
The works will be represented’ on two tables printed on A2 size paper (42x59.4cm), all with the appropriate graphic scale:
- Table 1: Dimensioned plans of the most significant elevations of the building subject of the exercise.
- Table 2: Elevations of the most significant levels of the building object of the exercise.

Assessment methods and criteria
The verification of learning will be carried out during the course and at the end of the course, through the evaluation of all
material produced.
The final evaluation will take place by examining the print-outs of the graphics produced with the computerised drawing programme chosen and used during the workshop.

This evaluation will be weighted as follows:
- How to use the software for digital representation (knowledge): 35%;
- Application of the most appropriate commands for the realisation of the elaborations (competence): 35%;
- Autonomous choice of the most appropriate mode of representation for the realisation of the work (autonomy of judgement): 30%.
