Learning objectives

The course of General Linguistics, inserting itself in the more general linguistic area and sharing its main lines, aims specifically to reflect on the linguistic-communicative dynamics, reflecting on all those competences (also para-, socio- and extralingusitiche) which, giving shape to the linguistic-communicative act, allowing the conscientization and enhancement of reading, analysis and commentary of any linguistic production for any purpose. The methodological, thematic, analytical and critical scope of a mutiform discipline and in some ancillary cases, in the training path, to the others, refers to the legal context of the reference sector.
Next to the administration to the students of a basic instrumentation for a good knowledge of the institutions of the discipline, through classroom meetings with experts we aime at an initial in-depth content and methodology, different from year to year, but in any case consistent with the basic general training.
By the declination of the Dublin Descriptors, we can briefly summarize: Knowledge and understanding: Students will develop knowledge and comprehension competence in the specific field thanks to the use of different sources (manuals, books and scientific articles, lectures, online learning objects etc.) regarding foundation topics and advanced research in the field of general linguistics; Applying knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to apply knowledge and comprehension skills, in particular, students will develop skills needed both to create and support argumentation and to solve problems in the specific field; Making judgements: Students will be able to collect and interpret data to determine autonomous judgements in in the field; Communication skills: thanks to the specific focus of the topics, students will be able to convey information, ideas, problems and solutions to specialists and non-specialists; Learning skills: Thanks to the general scaffolding of the course, students will develop learning skills useful to fulfil further studies in general linguistics and more generally speaking as learners in the second cycle or in lifelong learning education.

Course unit content

The course, which aims to provide students with the basic concepts for the acquisition of a modern language training, is dedicated mainly as institutional to present and discuss the basic concepts of general linguistics, addressing in parallel nodal points of the discipline (from terminology issues, the communicative aspects, to the main psycho- and socio-linguistic concepts).

Teaching methods

Normally frontal lessons and seminarial activity.

Assessment methods and criteria

It will be oral. We test the general knowledge, content and methodology, of the discipline. Among the most important content of the assessment at least: clarity, logic of argumentation, the competence of the technical language, ability to interdisciplinary links, adequacy of the answers to the questions asked. The final verification is in 30/30.
About the distribution of the overall score of the vote, up to 9 points are related to the knowledge of the text of Saussure, up to 9 to the book of Astori, up to 9 to the programme discussed in class, and up to 3 will be gained through the interaction within the classroom activities.

In parallel with the course, some third mission activities will be organized, which will be announced via the formun of the course.
