Learning objectives

1) Knowledge and understanding
-knowledge of architectures and circuit operation for static energy conversion
-knowledge of operational amplifier as single device, limitations, and applications.
-understanding of benefits and limitations of negative feedback in opamp-based circuits
-knowledge of circuit simulator and simulation techniques of opamp-based analog circuits and power converters.
2) Applying knowledge and understanding
-analysis and design of a basic power converter
- analysis and design of an analog circuit with opamp.
-simulation of opamp-based analog circuits and power converters

Power Electronics
1 Introduction
1.1 Applications and history. Short review on semiconductor power devices; classification of power converters. Specs: input and output distortion, efficiency, regulation.
2 Single-phase rectifiers
2.1 Single-wave rectifiers; full-bridge rectifiers.
2.2 Low-pass filters
2.3 Full-wave rectifiers with center-tapped transformer
3 Switching DC/DC regulators
3.1 Buck, Boost, Buck-boost in continuous mode
3.2 Brief notes on discontinuous mode.
3.2 Introduction to converter control with PWM
4 Single-phase DC/AC converters (inverters)
4.1 Half and full-bridge inverter
4.2 Introduction to converter control with PWM
5 Simulation of power converters with a circuit simulator.
