Integrated course unit module: DISEASES OF THE LOCOMOTOR APPARATUS

Learning objectives

Achieve knowledge of the main traumatic, congenital, inflammatory, degenerative, oncological pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, their therapeutic and rehabilitative needs. Obtain knowledge and diagnostic skills of their possible complications and how to manage them.PROVIDE THE STUDENT SKILLS 'SIGNIFICANT, RECOGNITION AND INTERPRETATION OF SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS (anamnestic and AIMS) FOR CLASSIFICATION OF ORTHOPAEDICS DISEASES

Good knowledge of the anatomy of the musculo-skeletal apparatus

clinical classification and therapy of the main traumatic, congenital, inflammatory, degenerative, oncological pathologies of the musculoskeletal system

Full programme

Congenital dysplasia of the hip.
Congenital twisted foot.
Hollow foot, flat foot.
Hallux valgus. Metatarsalgia.
Torticollis.
Meta-epiphyseal juvenile dystrophy or osteochondrosis (Perthes' disease, epiphysiolysis).
Scoliosis (congenital bone scoliosis, acquired scoliosis, juvenile idiomatic scoliosis, diagnosis, clinical diagnosis and principles of therapy).
Osteoarthritis (general principles, classification, pathological anatomy, clinical and radiographic diagnosis). Vertebral osteoarthritis, arthrosis of the hip, arthrosis of the knee and rizoarthrosis.
Main gender pathologies in orthopedics and traumatolgy.
Diagnosis and principles of treatment of lumbago, lumbosciatalgi, lombocruralgia and cervicobrachialgia.

General information on primitive and metatastatic tumors of the musculoskeletal system.

General principles of traumatology (bruises, sprains, dislocations and fractures).
Healing processes of a fracture.
Delay of consolidation and pseudoarthrosis; complications of fractures and dislocations. Main fractures of the limbs and vertebro-medullary fractures. Fractures of the proximal femur. Wrist and carpal scaphoid fractures.

Capsule-ligament injuries of the knee and meniscal injuries.

Carpal tunnel syndrome. Dupuytren's disease. Trigger finger. Rheumatoid hand. De Quervain’s disease.

Teaching methods

The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be partly available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly.medicina.unipr.it).

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
