The escalating problems related to the protection and management of the environment and the territory require the involvement of professionals with a strong interdisciplinary and transversal approach.
The environmental and land engineer is familiar with the problems related to sustainability, consumption of natural resources, and the relationship between man, his actions and the environment.
The activity of the engineer relates to the design and implementation of works pertaining to the mitigation of human activities' impact on the environment (pollution, use of natural resources, recovery of materials, energy production, maintenance of natural areas) and to the protection and prevention of the territory from natural phenomena such as floods, landslides, climate change.
The course combines classical engineering training with knowledge in the chemical, geological, biological and legislative sciences.
Students can choose to attend a dual-title course with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT - USA) or a study period or thesis abroad at the University of Florida, USA or University of Newcastle, Australia.

After graduation
The environmental and land engineer finds employment in the public and private sector.
They are in demand in environmental protection agencies, organisations involved in the design and implementation of engineering works and environmental and territorial control and monitoring systems, hydrogeological risk mitigation and water resource management. They also find employment in the areas of Civil Protection and Local Authorities in the environmental field.
Further employment sectors are the study of the atmosphere and the climate, sustainable use of natural energy sources, management of distribution networks, waste treatment plants, as well as assessment of the impact and environmental compatibility of plans and works.
They also find employment in engineering companies, design and management companies for defence and remediation work.
