Why in Parma?
The livestock, food and cultural heritage of our territory should be protected through the training of highly specialized and motivated technicians who combine tradition and innovation, science and culture, technology and dairy enterprise management. The breadth of the training in Dairy Enterprise Technology and Management (TeGIC) is fostered by the contribution of professors from two different universities, and by lengthy internships in companies, industries, professional firms and/or public or private administrations, allowing students to acquire practical skills that are fundamental for the profession.
The course curriculum provides basic skills in the technical and scientific disciplines crucial to the industry, such as chemistry, business economics and management, general animal husbandry and genetic improvement, and animal nutrition and feeding. These will be complemented by in-depth skills in primary production, milk quality and evaluation criteria, cheesemaking processes, production technologies of other important by-products, machinery and equipment. Great emphasis will be placed on the environmental sustainability of dairy production. This knowledge will be complemented by sound training in law and economics, supporting rational management of the dairy enterprise.
The course is run collaboratively by the University of Parma (administrative hub) and the University of Milan, with the cooperation of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and CREA - Council for Agricultural Research and Analysis of Agricultural Economics.
