Why in Parma?
The profession-oriented degree course in 'Quality and procurement of raw materials for agri-food' trains food technicians who are experts in the evaluation, selection and procurement of raw materials for the industry, catering and large-scale retail trade. The professional will be the link between producers (agricultural sector) and other stakeholders in the supply chain, including consumers.
The raw material is studied in all its facets so as to characterise it and predict its suitability for a specific process or use. The qualifying educational objectives are centred on the fundamentals of food technology, and integrated by aspects of plant and animal production, materials science and technology (for the food industry) and legal aspects in the field of agriculture. The strength of the course and its uniqueness lie in the intensive laboratory work (approximately one third of the CFUs) and the internship in private companies (approximately one third of the CFUs).

After graduation
The course is intended to train professionals working as freelancers or employees, both in the public and private sectors, in public and private analysis laboratories, industries in the agri-food sector, agricultural companies, service centres in the agri-food area, large-scale retail trade.
The main occupational prospects may be:
- Category managers for raw materials in public and private companies;
- freelance consultants;
- laboratory technicians for the analysis of raw materials of plant and animal origin.
At the end of the course graduates will qualify for enrolment in the 'Collegio dei Periti Agrari e Periti Agrari Laureati' and the 'Collegio degli Agrotecnici e degli Agrotecnici Laureati'.
Switching to a different first-cycle degree course and continuing on to a second-cycle degree course will not be straightforward.
