Research topics

The PhD in Materials Science aims to provide graduates in: Materials Science; Physics; Chemistry; Industrial Chemistry and Engineering the skills necessary to carry out highly qualified scientific and professional research in the field of Materials Science and Technology at Universities, public bodies and above all companies. The Doctorate ensures highly interdisciplinary training thanks to the skills present in the proposing Departments (SCVSA and SMFI) of the University of Parma, and in the IMEM and ISTEC Institutes of the CNR. The training program for doctoral students is designed to give orientation towards: knowledge of the processes of synthesis and/or growth and of the relationships between the structure and the chemical-physical properties of materials; the development of the capacity to model and design new materials; acquisition of control of process technologies and knowledge of the main diagnostic and analysis techniques; to the acquisition of soft skills. The knowledge can be aimed at the study, development and application of innovative materials in various disciplinary fields, therefore didactic-training paths are prepared for each cycle: lessons and seminars with proficiency tests; doctoral students attend schools on topics related to materials science and participate in research conducted abroad in groups with which there are collaboration relationships.
