Learning objectives

The course aims to:
Offer a critical awareness of urbanization phenomena
Provide basic tools for urban planning and design
Provide tools to consider and evaluate dimensional aspects both:
in terms of population density (decreasing everywhere) and built volumes;
in proportion with collective spaces.
Operate a guided exercise on the theme of urban regeneration - which we will understand in a synthetic way as the functional enhancement of urban areas, degraded or obsolete, through interventions of social, economic, environmental and physical reactivation.

Enrollment in the third year of the course

Course unit content

The classroom teaching - recorded online - deals with the contents and methods of organization and configuration of the city, extended to the control of functions, urban morphologies up to the dialogue with building typologies and the setting of the mobility system and the road network.
A part of the lessons is dedicated to the presentation and discussion of case studies of urban regeneration by students interested in the design exercise.
A further section is dedicated to the carrying out of guided exercises on the fundamentals of urban planning
A part of the course, reserved for students interested in the design teaching application will continue only online, with additional hours to the classroom teaching.

Assessment methods and criteria

There are two exam methods available to students:
1
Complete program with discussion of the course content based on a urban redevelopment project (preferably carried out by groups of students on an area of ​​between 40 ha and 100 ha.
2
Reduced program for working students: oral exam for individual students, only bibliographical, limited to verifying knowledge of the content of the course. In this case, the maximum grade is limited to 27/30
