Why in Parma?

The teaching is of an outstanding standard, as testified by students, by representatives of local businesses members of the Steering Committee of the Mathematics degree programmes, and by new graduates who easily and quickly find employment (the quality of research is highlighted by the excellent ranking in the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (Arwu) of 2014 and the CWTS Leiden Ranking of 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020).

The flexibility of the educational offer allows you to include in your study plan a fair number of lectures of a mathematical-applicative nature, provided by other degree programmes of the University. Lectures with a mathematical character are held at the Mathematics Complex, which features three reading rooms and classrooms for individual or group study. In addition, the building houses the teachers' offices, allowing for easier student/faculty interaction. A curriculum is provided for students interested in teaching mathematics.

Attendance

After graduation

We guarantee you multiple professional opportunities: in businesses, in laboratories and research centers for dissemination of scientific culture, in the service sector and in the public administration, with various areas of interest including computer science. Your degree will also be valued in all areas where mental flexibility is required, such as ability to adapt to new situations, familiarity with data management, analysis and processing.

Our training will enable you to enter second-level master's, doctoral schools and PhD programs. The curriculum allows you to acquire credits in areas such as biology and pedagogy, and will facilitate a career in teaching. The demand for graduates in Mathematics is steadily increasing; this is confirmed by AlmaLaurea data and by a survey conducted by the Mathematics Department's teaching secretary's office, which show high employment rates one year after graduating. You can also consult the Excelsior information system January 2020 monthly bulletin, produced by Unioncamere and Anpal, which shows a 25.4 percent increase in demand for science, math and physics graduates.
