Why in Parma?
The course is run by the Department of Chemical, Life and Environmental Sustainability Sciences, awarded by the MUR (Ministry of University and Research) as 'Department of Excellence 2023-2027' with extra funding for research and teaching.
The course is divided into two branches: Biomolecular Chemistry and Materials Chemistry.
The course broadens your background in chemistry and is taught in English, hence opening the way to Overworld scholarships, Erasmus programmes and to the possibility of obtaining a double degree with the University of Cape Town (South Africa) or the University of Twente (The Netherlands).
While working on your thesis you will have the opportunity to be involved in a project of collaboration with research organisations (CNR, etc.), or industrial partners (food industry, pharmaceutical industry), a first step towards the world of work and research.
You will come into contact with stimulating realities where you will be able to develop your skills using the most innovative experimental methodologies, and increase your knowledge and critical capabilities through confrontation with a staff of international lecturers.

Attendance
Not mandatory (exception of laboratory activities).
After graduation
You will find work in chemical research and development laboratories, in chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries and in environmental protection centres.
The national employment rate five years after graduating is 100% (source: AlmaLaurea 2022).
The Master's degree in Chemistry also prepares you for:
- the liberal profession of chemist (subject to passing the State examination for qualification to practise as a chemist);
- continuing your studies by enrilling in a PhD course, typically in chemistry or materials science;
- continuing your studies by enrolling in professional courses, such as advanced training in Quality System and Quality Control in Testing Laboratories.
