Integrated course unit module: RURAL ECONOMY, AGRONOMY - BOTANY

Learning objectives

The course is aimed at teaching knowledge and understanding of the basics of the market economy, agro-food economics and agronomy. The student will also learn to apply the acquired knowledge and understanding in identifying and solving the problems of business management in relation to the policies of the EU and to food security. The student will be able, with the acquired knowledge, to analyze and express opinions on the problems of the agricultural sector (Making judgements). The student will be able to analyze situations and alternative scenarios of agricultural policy (communication skills). The student will have the critical knowledge to compare and compare the nature of the problems of the agricultural sector in the medium and long term (Learning capacity).

The economic system.
Market, supply and demand.
The entrepreneur, the company and the firm.
The firm's annual report and the performance ratios.
Agri-food system and supply chains, firm strategies.
Geographical indications, PDO and PGI products, TSG products.
Public intervention and EU policies.
Taxation and the cadastral system.
Agronomy, agronomic techniques, cost and performance analysis.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student will have to perform a final oral exam with verification questions that must demonstrate knowledge and ability to understand the topics covered, autonomy of judgment and ability to express opinions on the problems of the sector, have acquired critical knowledge to compare and compare the nature of the underlying problems. This will be verified with a plurality of questions.
