Learning objectives

At the end of the course the students will have acquired and will be able to use, linguistic and cultural structures, skills and strategies in oral and written interaction in Italian language for academic purposes.

Prerequisites

A2 or B1 language competence level in Italian. Only students who have passed the exams of Italian Language for Foreign Students I and II can attend Italian Language for Foreign Students III.

Course unit content

The course leads foreign students to the acquisition of linguistic and communicative competences in Italian as an L2 of an intermediate or upper-intermediate type, according to the entrance level of students. In particular the course aims to develop linguistic structures, strategies and skills used in the oral and written comprehension and communication in Italian Language for academic purposes. The syllabus is drawn upon the levels as in the Commom European Framework of References for Languages modified in order to cover skills and language structures found in the academic language.

Bibliography

Textbooks will be chosen after testing students on arrival in Parma according to their language competences.

Teaching methods

The course is delivered online

Assessment methods and criteria

Written Exam.

The student has to complete all the activities of the online materials.

The comprehension activities are: multiple choice, true/false, and open questions; charts, diagrams, grids, maps and summaries to be filled; titles selection, and cloze activity.

The student will be also tested on the use of language through blanks activity, multiple choice, matching activity, vocabulary activities focused upon synonyms, antonyms, etc. Moreover, activities test the use of connectives and punctuation.

There are also different activities to improve the writing in Italian language.

Other information

Only students who have passed the exams of Italian Language for Foreign Students I and II can attend Italian Language for Foreign Students III.
The course is supported by self-access material provided on-line which allow students to acquire language competences for academic purposes under the teachers' supervision. This will be done using the distance learning platform of the University of Parma.
